Icarus, Incensed at Being a Cautionary Tale
Kate MacLauchlan
My molten wax wings molted,
dripped like ink
from an unfettered quill.
Smaller minds mistook my hunger
for hubris.
I threw up my hands,
watched them bury their desire
to scream into the sun,
to hear their heart bursting,
to drown in the depths
of their delusions.
But I would do it all again:
Face smacked by salt waves,
arms reaching for something burning.
