The Rage, The Fear
Stephen Mead

Era to wear & worn well,
those invisible scars lacing through
with the delicacy of a noose any hand can pull.
Mull it over, the wall & the order to face
before the firing squad raises its guns.
Turn around. Skip the blindfold.
Stare with a "no thank you"
said to the usual cigarillo.
This won't lower arms or break the ropes.
This will only hold the moment
& every other which required
the same gaze, the same stance
when the spirit itself did not want to look
but had to.

Resident artist/curator for The Chroma Museum, artistic renderings of LGBTQI historical figures, organizations and allies predominantly before Stonewall, The Chroma Museum, Stephen Mead is a retiree whom, throughout all his pretty non-glamorous jobs still found time for writing poetry/essays and creating art.  Occasionally he even got paid for this. Currently he is trying to sell his 40 year backlog of unsold art before he pops his cogs. Art Collection from Stephen Mead
